-----------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks to all those who attended the Conference and EGM in
November, it was very well attended, and you being there is very
much appreciated.
For those who couldn't be at the EGM here is a summary.
EGM 2010 - November 13th
Introduction - Michael Garrett (Chairperson)
Powerpoint Presentation - Daragh O’ Sullivan (Administrator)
‘Moving forward together’ - an outline of the progress of our
working groups and what the future holds
We propose that this Association incorporate itself officially as
Institute of Clinical Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy Post
Graduate Association Limited, Companies No. 490738, a Company
Limited by Guarantee and not having a share capital.
This was seconded and accepted unanimously.
Michael Garrett (Chairperson) proposes to accept proposal no. 2
We propose that the Constitution, Code of Ethics and Childrens
Policy be adopted by the PGA, once adopted, they will go to
Committee / Working Group for a members consultation period, and
subsequent to that consultation period, to last no longer than 2
calender months, the Committee is given power to implement these
documents as this Associations governing documents.
After consultation, questions and debate, this proposal was
accepted in the following form
We propose that the draft Constitution, draft Code of Ethics and
draft Childrens Policy be adopted by the PGA, once adopted, they
will go to Committee / Working Group for a members consultation
period, and subsequent to that consultation period, to last no
longer than 3 calender months, the Committee will put the amended
documents to a members vote (at AGM or by Post)
Finally Michael suggested and recommended that Peer Groups be
formed to give members more of a say on a National level, and
could be combined with Supervision also.
Daragh to organise regional meetings in the new year to help form
these groups.
All in attendance were thanked and it was great to have open
debate about issues and reach a conclusion that was acceptable to
everybody.
So what next...
The consultation process
-----------------------------------------------------------------
So we are now entering into a 3 month consultation process.
This process will be broken into 3 parts.
Part 1. The review and input process
Part 2. The revision process
Part 3. The final drafting process
So we are in Part 1. now.
This involves 2 areas.
1. Setting up a specific working group to pull together all input
and revise in the appropriate ways the documents as presented
until final draft stage.
If you have experience or interest in this area (code of ethics /
constitution / childrens policy) please go here to register your
interest. You would be expected to attend 3/4 meetings between
January and the end of February to oversee the compilation of the
final drafts.
2. All members are now invited to submit their thoughts /
amendments / proposals for inclusion.
You can go HERE
[http://www.hypnotherapyassociation.ie/filesharing/public-files]
to downlaod the document and then go HERE

to send in your input. No input will be accepted other than
through this process. This will ensure all input is dealt with in
the correct manner. Input will be accepted until the end of
December.
Part 2 and Part 3 will commence in January.
Northern Ireland Therapists
-----------------------------------------------------------------
As you know we are a member of the UKCHO (UK Confederation of
Hypnotherapy Organisations) and together with The Working Group
on Hypnotherapy Regulation, has now finalised its policy and
programme of work for the voluntary regulation of the
hypnotherapy profession.
The outline is below. If you wish to participate as a member of
this Association, please pass your current details to me via this
form
[http://www.hypnotherapyassociation.ie/peer-skills-evenings/text/peer-groups-skills-evenings].
To keep the process simple this is the way to register with us.
We will submit your details to UKCHO and you will be officially
registered by the CNHC (The Complementary & Natural Healthcare
Council) [http://www.cnhc.org.uk/pages/index.cfm]. So submit your
email address and the CNHC will then contact you directly.
It goes to show the importance of getting ALL Hypnotherapy
Associations together, to move towards regulation in the
Republic. We will continue with this work.
PROFESSIONAL REGULATION IN THE UK
“Regulation, whether statutory or voluntary, is about protecting
the public. For this reason, the Government through the
Department of Health fully supports the work of The Complementary
and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC). The Department of Health
has stated that the only register of complementary or alternative
therapists that they will recognize is the CNHC.” (A Statement by
the Department of Health, 2010).
The Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council has been
established and supported by the Department of Health with the
aim that its kite-mark ‘CNHC Registered’ will give complementary
healthcare practitioners the opportunity to demonstrate that they
are bona fide and meet recognised standards of competence and
probity, and abide by a rigorous code of conduct, performance and
ethics, and, in addition, that they are covered by adequate
professional indemnity insurance. The Hypnotherapy Regulatory
Forum, with its two constituent bodies, The UK Confederation of
Hypnotherapy Organisations and The Working Group on Hypnotherapy
Regulation, has now finalised its policy and programme of work
for the voluntary regulation of the hypnotherapy profession.
Under the independent chairmanship of Dr Jenny Gordon, and with
the professional advice and financial support of The Prince’s
Foundation, the Hypnotherapy Regulatory Forum has agreed
standards for education and training, together with codes of
conduct, ethics and performance, and has established registers of
accredited hypnotherapists, who are safe and competent to
practice.
The target date for the completion of the work leading to the
professional regulation of hypnotherapy has always been 30th
December 2010, and UKCHO is pleased to report that the
Hypnotherapy Regulatory Forum has now agreed with the
Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council that the voluntary
regulation of the hypnotherapy profession will begin on 1st
December 2010 with the opening of the new CNHC National Register
of Hypnotherapists.
The first stage in the regulation process will be for the
transfer to the CNHC of the information contained in the UKCHO
database of hypnotherapists, so that CNHC may contact individual
hypnotherapy practitioners inviting them to register with the
Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council. (For the
professional advantages of CNHC Registration, please visit the
website at www.cnhc.org.uk). This transfer of information to the
CNHC will comply with the Data Protection Acts. It is important
to note, however, that to be recognized by the Department of
Health hypnotherapy practitioners will need to be listed on the
CNHC Register.
Within The Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council the
hypnotherapy profession will have its own ‘Profession Specific
Board’ to advise the CNHC on relevant matters of education and
training, and standards of ethics, conduct and performance.
Initially, the four members of the PSB will be nominated by the
Hypnotherapy Regulatory Forum to serve for an initial period of
three years, after which nominations for election to the PSB will
be sought from all ‘CNHC Registered Hypnotherapists’.
